Therapeutic Approach

At Lewisia, we value person-centred, evidence-based and sensitive approach to therapy. As mental health disorders and poor mental health are becoming increasingly prevalent in today's society, early interventions and treatments are considered crucial for alleviating symptoms. Lewisia believes in committed and professional care that honours clients' best interests and upholds dignity as they embark on a healing journey. This is reflected in the name 'Lewisia', a type of flower plant that grows and blossoms in rocky grounds and cliffs all year around, even in wild and extreme weather conditions!

At the heart of our treatment approach, there are empathy, professionalism and respect. While science and research lay strong foundations for evidence-based psychotherapy, we believe that trust between a therapist and a client is essential for effective change to occur.

Once the trust-based therapeutic rapport is established in the early stage of therapy, cognitive-behaviour based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are introduced in subsequent sessions to equip clients with skills to better manage their symptoms. When these approaches are introduced, we ensure that clients are active participants in therapy by regularly checking-in with their thoughts, motivations and ideas. This collaborative approach is another element that is at the core of our treatments as we believe in the importance of upholding clients' uniqueness and rights.

Not everyone benefits from the same type of treatment or therapy for particular symptoms or experience, therefore we ensure that our service is rooted in three core values; openness, respect and professionalism.
